Chaneling Coco: The skinny on how to be chic
There are a few people who I absoutely look up to and admire in the fashion world. Most of them are dead. To me there is no one today in the spotlight that really lives up to the examples set down by people like Audrey Hepburn, Jackie O, and the all time Godess of Chic, Coco Chanel.
Coco Chanel is my idol. Not only was she a damned good business woman and she turned the fashion industry upside down with her revolutionary ideas. Most things considered the building blocks of chic were Coco’s idea, twin sets, pearls, little black dresses, nautical inspired clothing, corsages, cotume jewlery, etc etc.
For women wanting to know how to be chic, how to have that untouchable style, listen up, here it is.
1. Be differant. Despite the tomes of knowlage spewing out of fashion magazines, none of them can teach you how to be chic, only trendy.Being differant means having your own style, wearing something beautiful and unexpected. Today everyone wears the same thing and its boring.
2. Get a your own signature style. Chic women have their own style, and they are comfortable in their own skins. Maybe its a particular purfume made in an obscure region of France, maybe its that scar of red lipstick against a ivory cheek, or a chunky jade necklace.
3. Go Vintage. If you like the style of Audrey, Jackie, Grace, Ava, Marlene, Lana or Ginger, try aquireing a few vintage pieces into your wardrobe. A beautiful 1930’s low back evening gown, a little black dress from the 1960’s, or a pair of 1940’s slingbacks. Mix and match with modern to look sensational.
4. Get a great hair style and stick with it. You might want to going with a classic hair style, or one that just looks sensational with your cheek bones.
