When it gets cold in LA, its time to get schlepy…Bad Fashion on Melrose Ave.
Can you say schlepy? Fred Segal carries nothing but bland maternity inspired nothings for the emacited. Not a classic or chic thing in sight…
I took a walk dow Melrose Ave today in Los Angeles, a street with lots of stores including Betsey Johnson and Fred Segal. Everyone looked the same, and not just the same, they looked bad. They looked like they tried hard to look schlumpy not like they were just college kids who rolled of bed and go to class.
The look here when it gets cold in LA ( cold as in anything under 70 degees) is skinny jeans, tucked into floppy fur covered ugg like boots that look like they should be worn by a lumber jack in eastern europe, and a wide balooning tunic styled shirt that looks like it was bought at Mimi Maternity, the hair scrunched on top of the head, a very large ugly purse that looks like a feed sack and classic aviator sunglasses all thrown on to a body which is probably 20 lbs underweight. Its not bohemian, its just schelpy.
I went into Fred Segal that looks great on the outside, but really disorganized and bland on the insides, and asked the girl ( who had the air of a fashion guru) did they have any dresses that looked like something Audrey Hepburn might wear
” Who?” She asked me.
That was when I knew I needed to go. The only cool thing about Fred Segal is the cafe, but here, very thin women pick at thier salads, while occasionally stopping to chain smoke…
Even celebrities when I see them look like this. Why if you have so much money do you want to look like a poor little emeciated rag a muffin?
Its not that people in LA don’t have style, its that there are very few people actually use their brain, instead they buy what ever is trendy and try hard to pull the look off.
Audrey Hepburn had a stick thin figure, but she didn’t cover it up in a bunch of layers ala Nicole Ritchie, she worked with what she had, and flattered her gamine figure with little black dresses and chic black skinny pants (sans lumber jack boots)
